Ms. Jillion Morris is a Shark conservationist who lives in Bimini, Bahamas who loves connecting with people and educating them on sharks and its’ conservation. She uses the Skype app and does filming and tagging about sharks. Now she has been under water about 10000 hrs. Her mother country is Florida, USA.
After seeing my educational activities in twitter she asked me to connect my students with her to talk about sea and the sharks. And she has invited me to connect as Sri Lanka is an island. I have selected my grade 8 students as they have a science lesson on “sea speciies”. After having many discussions about a month, we scheduled our Skype session and she planned to talk to my students about sharks and their nature under the water. The students drew some posters on sharks and shared some vocabulary lists and videos to prepare for the lesson. We have 10.30 hrs time difference but it wasn’t a barrier for us. Finally we connected together on her time @ 5.00 a.m. and in Sri Lanka the time was @ 3.30 p.m. on 1st of March 2016. While on the Skype call she shared PowerPoint presentations and videos on sharks. They learnt a lot and it was an unforgettable moment for the students.
Students were so impressed and the session was amazing. Students asked so many question from her and it develops students’ English speaking and social skills as well. We are looking forward to connect with her again.
