Success Story ~ E Master

I’m Shiroma Weerathunge, working as the Master in-charge of ICT at Embilipitiya President’s College, Sri Lanka. As the Master in-charge of ICT I have so many duties and while doing my duties I’m guiding my students to do so many outdoor activities other than classroom teaching and learning. I always assign students to do extra curricular as they are helpful to buildup student’s personality, learning abilities, enhances students’ knowledge, attitude and skills, students are more educated about their environment, building strong relationship among students, developing good rapport between the students and the teacher, loving to the environment, learn about team spirit, the ability to make their own decisions, learn about real world problem solving and innovations etc.. And always guiding students to use new technology and technology tools with these activities as they are essential to fulfill the needs of the future workforce. Through these outdoor activities students get the opportunity to develop 21st century learning skills in their education.

Actually, I would like to say that I really love for my teaching profession. I’m working with pleasure with my students and colleagues. Now I feel that I have selected the right profession for me. I attracted to this profession more from last year because I had a great job for renew school web site & handle the school social media and to work as an administrator of school web. I created the 2nd version of school web with the support of my colleagues. As the head of the school ICT unit I got an opportunity to show and explain advances of having a school web and social media with my staff and the community. They all appreciated me with their heartiest blessings. With the students of ICT club and photography club we are covering all the events of our school and update the school social media. With the feedback of specialists of IT and other reviewers of our web site and other related works performed by me, I am really convinced that I have selected the most accurate profession for my life.
I'm so interested to do so many extra curricular activities with my students as it is important to develop 21st century skills in my students. I'm the teacher in-charge of school Robotics club (click on the "Gallery" tab)and photographic & videographic club (visit my blog on photographic club The Third Eye). Students in those clubs are actively engaged with these activities.

Further Microsoft have proved me that I am in the right profession by selecting me as one of the best two expert educators from Sri Lanka year 2014 and 2015. Microsoft Innovative Expert Educator program helps me establish new connections with other great educators in the world, attend inspirational webinars and learn new technology applications with my students and colleagues. I could gain more experiences to do my duty in best way after participating to the Microsoft in Education Global Forum which was held in Barcelona, Spain on 11th - 14th March 2014 representing Sri Lanka . After training more than 100 educators I have been appointed as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Trainer, as completing my contribution in 2015.

Microsoft in Education is conducting monthly connection calls for the Microsoft Innovative Expert Educators (MIEE) in worldwide. As a MIEE I got a great opportunity to do an online presentation about one of my learning activity. Here I presented representing Sri Lanka. The time was 4.30 a.m here and 4.00 p.m. in Seattle, Washington. My speech in this video is begins from 12.30 mins.

Now I’m working with enthusiasm. So, I love and much more interesting for my teaching profession forever and invite all the people who have courage to work in the teaching profession as it remains happiness and great memories in our spirit ever last.
